 offices, stores , and warehouses”(chp4,pg103).the development of mass-transit changed  not only the city and its habitants but also the use of streets  and the land as whole. Starting by Stagecoach  up in down on Broadway, omnibus, horse railways, steam-powered trains ,The cable car, electric trolleys,  to the first New York City’s subway open in 1904, Chudacoff stated that “perhaps the most important breakthrough in urban mass transportation occurred in the last quarter of the nineteenth century when innovators applied mechanical power to vehicles, beginning with cable car”(p88). The mass-transit development has completely changed the urban cities in united stated along with  its the reading emphasized  the increased in population that lead to omnibuses that spread rapidly in many other Cities other than New York city due to increase in profit.  omnibus was not only filling the  street demand for transportation  , it was also a luxury  for certain population . Of course omnibus and other mass-transit has altered the center of a city . The expansion of   such transit has divided a companies and people  into regions  and pushed others to move out the city.
