After reading the “In Hope of Liberty” by Horton and Horton and comparing it to the website given, I noticed significant differences on how each source approached the topic of slavery and the abolition movement. It appears that although they same general message of slavery is conveyed, the perspectives taken by the authors differ.
In “Hopes of Liberty” the approach taken by Horton and Horton is somewhat motivating seeing how the movement grew within the slave communities and the actions taken by those with power to abolish slaveries hold over the U.S. By also using the tactic of clearly showing the contradiction in the Country’s ideology along with the strength of motivation of slaves, Horton really drives the point home. When comparing it to the website, I notice that the way the website is set up, its motives are to inform the view with an accurate historical account of how the slave trade began, to exactly how the abolition movement occurred without creating an argumentative appeal. The use of imagery on the website really helps drive the point its trying to make. Personally, all methods used by the authors and the website creator were affective and informative even though their approach on influencing the viewer differ from one another.
