And the Survey Said…

The rise of various means of communications and organizations emphasized the importance of politics and reformers sprouted to create a way to expose conditions of the society to the the public so people were more aware and educated about their surroundings. These reforms were mainly focused on politics and enabled positions for women who were also driven towards the same goals as men. One of the ways these problems were exposed was through social science surveys. These “included surveys of public health and housing, studies of the incidence and location of poverty, and investigations of local corruptions” (Chudacoff p. 153-154). Even today, surveys are very significant in politics giving the population a general view towards a topic. Presidential elections heavily rely on surveys and polls reflecting the general populations view on an important law, policy, decision and even election “horse-races”. Surveys propose where the general opinion on a matter falls and if action is necessary to fix a problem or to just leave it alone.
