Beautify the City

While there was social reform during the late 1800s and the early 1900s, there was also the a group of reformers that set their works on beautifying the city, making it a better place for the citizens. For example, they reformed land use, sewerage, sanitation, bridge and street building and etc. (pg 165) Because of this improvement, landscaping and architecture and engineering had merged into new professions. (pg 165)

Pretty soon, there were large, landscaped parks, new bridge and road works, like the Brooklyn Bridge. The City Beautiful movement was also started which was an attempt to improve life within cities by enhancing civic design. (pg 165) The City Beautiful movement played a large part in this reformation of the city. Some projects addressed the city as a whole not just a part of it. (pg 166)

Till this day, landscaping and improving our city’s foundations and design still play a major role in our lives. It creates jobs and helps our city improve in terms of inner and outer beauty.
