Make Big Plans-Aim High & Hope

The motto of Daniel Burnham was “Make no little plans; make big plans…aim high and hope.” As a prominent architect during the early 1900s his mission along with the City Beautiful movements were to transform the cities from a disparaged dwelling center, into a new and innovative territory by enhancing civic design. Their plans were to create cities that were more attractive and profitable for businesses. For example a project in Chicago consisted of renovations and creations of “lakefront parks and beaches, a civic center, and large forest preserves. But for many of this architects the renovations to cities that were poverty stricken were not their main concern. Their focus was to make improvements to the city as a whole with the belief that in would “correct imbalances.” Like today, many renovations and construction are done in the parts of the New York where the most people go to make sure people are attracted to those areas for profit. In the meanwhile other parts of the city are left neglected and in the worst shape. Washington D.C. for example is a beautiful place near the White House or the Capital or  even in the Georgetown where most people go for attractions, but with a thirty minute drive into certain neighborhoods you could see where the money was put, and where it was taken from.
