Alcohol – The Temperance Movement

Chudacoff speaks a lot about the temperance movement. Since the civil war and even before that, people have been trying to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol. The result has been the creation of the temperance movement. Though many people wanted to ban the consumption of alcohol and shut down saloons which sold alcoholic beverages, protestant women were the main people involved in the temperance movement. As stated by Chudacoff, they created the Woman’s Christian Temperance Movement and even banned alcohol for a brief moment of time.
