Evolution war, draft riots war, and civil war were some events that affected New York city and transformed New York City economically, and socially as well. These events left the city with a greater s destruction that required not only a reconstruction but also reforms that put life in the City again. Saloons were toughly opposed along with prostitution which was some of main social problems. Prostitution was a serious social issue in late 19th century according to Chudacoff reading and still does pose a problem today. The native born protest women had leaded the civil-war temperance movement on this issue. The saloons were part of men abuses to women and to their

wives in particular due to the alcohol served in these places. The effort to fight such social problem along prostitution leaded to form the women’s Christian Temperance Union in 1874 which actively put a lot of pressure and called to close these saloons , and result it leaded to state and national prohibition laws. I recall the NY governor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned due to a prostitution issue that came in media which indicate that this problem still exist but become more professional than in late 19th century.
