As we’ve seen in Chudacoff throughout this semester, the U.S. has been a central destination for many immigrants for centuries. With the waves of immigrants beginning with the german and Irish fallowed by several others including jewish, italians, and chinese immigrants, immigration has been one of the leading topics of controversy in the U.S. In current day, a bill introduced in Arizona, SB 1070, denouncing citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants even though they were born in the U.S. has become the newest controversial issue regarding immigration legislation. As more and more stats are jumping on bored and racial profiling by government officials is a main issue that might occur due to this bill, views on immigration haven’t seem to have changed much since the initial waves of immigrants arrived in the U.S. during the late 19th century.
