Social Security Act

Due to the Great Depression many people were crying out for jobs and security. In August 1935 the Social Security Act was passed. It was favored by the people over other relief agencies.  It basically created programs for the elderly, unployed, federal assistance to the blind, disabled, and dependent children. At that time there were little consequences to the enactment of these programs. The elderly were now looked at as a national concern. This act would be the beginning of many programs that were to come, it set the path.

The Social Security act passed by Theodor Roosevelt was established to assisted retired workers by providing them with a monthly allowance for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately the Act is under siege. The current tax paying population will not be able to amass enough funds to pay for all of the people retiring.
So are the proposed solutions have been to increase taxes to balance out the deficit but many feel that is unfair. The elderly that are at risk here have done their part and paid in to the government program not it is the government turn to do their part. Instead of investing in the private sector as the government is so fond of doing they should have been more cautious and safe guarded the future of the program and the lives of the people they affected.
