Changes Between 194I & 1974

1) The integration of minorities from ghettos and segregated areas for minorities to urban cities. However various forms of racial discrimination still occured.

2) Increased partaking of women in the labor industry in place of the men that went off to war.

3) The 1949 Housing Act that was passed to provide ” a decent home and suitable living environment  for every American family”.

4) The increase of welfare services provided to low income earners especially unemployed women with Dependants. “In 1970, the welfare budget of New York City alone was $1.4 billion”.

5) The general increase in salaries due to the reduction in the depression rate.

*The integration of African-Americans and Mexican-Americans helped jump start civil rights movement. Due to the discrimination brought about by the integration, civil rights campaigns headed by Martin Luther King  challenged discrimination by protesting in the  south before the the national march to Washington. Also 12000 new Mexican-American voters were registered in 1940, Los Angeles by the Community Service Organisation.
