The Evening Post. Newspaper that included letter to editor "Cornelius"

How can you described one of the most dangerous, crime struck, poverty stricken environments, or the birth place a heathenism according to many Religious leaders. This was the town of Five Points, New York City or known today as Chinatown. This “hell on earth” forced many journalists, Religious magazines, and well-known writers to chronicle the events of five-points and show an increased amount of interest.  Tyler Abinder chose to talk about the situations in Five Points in more detail. The sources he uses are “bank ledgers, court records, real estate documents, government reports, marriage and adoption records, newspapers, diaries, and manuscript collections,” drawing on the other side of Five Points not seen, the achievements.

  1. I think this can come up on the midterm exam because it is an example of how New York became what it is today. It was a staple in our history and the way we grew from it. This would be fair to ask on the test.

This would be a good question on the exam because it shows us how New York has over came hardships and resolved problems within the community to lessen disease and improve living conditions.
