Painting the Image: Immigration to America

If I were capable of building a website it will be time machines into the past and a video within each time machine. Filled with videos I will have the best actors give personal stories of immigrants who lived in that time and explain what a typical day was for them. Along with that I would have advertisements saying things like tenement apartment on sale, no lingering by the sweatshops, No Blacks allowed etc. It will shine on these few aspects during the first to waves on immigration. It will paint the picture of a tiresome journey to Ellis Island.  One that involves a woman with hope, a man eager to finally get the necessary wages to provide for his family, and a child desperate to see what excitement this new world has to unfold. But most importantly, it will shed light the country that failed these newcomers. Evoking the pain and suffering of the people that came to America I would first show a scared little girl. Frightened to sleep early, in her old tenement packed in with many families she does not know many consisting of men, she sleeps scared. She is scared that the drunk man with the beard will come and drag her in the hall way, scared that if she tells he would hurt her mother like he promised to, she so scared that she pees herself everything, but he continues, advantage of her womanhood, a womanhood she didn’t have time to realize she had.

It will paint a story for African Americans, living in the worse sectors of tenement society. Having no jobs, no means to provide for their family, no successful businesses, but instead having to resort to entertainment, which pleased a crowd other than blacks. It will show how they dehumanized themselves to make a decent wage and how the disrespected their own kind jus to survive. It will also show the African American men. One in particular who killed the policemen assuming he was trying to bother his girlfriend. It will show how that led to many whites killed and fighting blacks. My website will make sure to showcase the stories that the history books did not tell.
