Depression

Around 1929, the American nation was experiencing a problem, which is the Great Depression. It was not surprising that the nation had to face this crisis because the economy was treated irresponsibly, and a lot of unnecessary excesses were made. The depression affected all the cities and every class. The stock market crashed, public and private agencies struggles and people were loosing jobs (mostly the unskilled, the young and the black, Chudacoff 198). To remediate to the market crash, President Hoover encouraged governors and mayors to create job opportunities for the citizens. According to Chudacoff the problem was not only financial, but also political. The taxes represented an issue because a portion was unpaid, so certain cities had to adjust late payments without penalizing the taxpayers.
