The Dutch- Urbanization’s Stepping Stone

The arrival of the Dutch influenced the urbanization of America a great deal. The failure of the Hudson Voyage to find a direct route from Holland to New York did not stop the Dutch. The twenty five foot building of New Amsterdam increased commercial activities in New York. Fur trading became big in New Amsterdam thus enhancing  the economic level in New York.

The Dutch also converted Boston from originally being a religious town to a favorable commercial city. They also developed other cities such as Newport which was also founded by a religious group. The Dutch lost New Amsterdam to the British in 1664 and although the Dutch were not as successful as their latter colonizers they were a stepping stone to the creation of the mega city that New York is today.
