Assignment due 6/16

1) Complete reading
2) Choose a city other than New York, and write a post detailing at least one similarity and one difference with NYC that existed between 1800 and 1865.  I recommend using Chudacoff as a source, although you are welcome to use outside sources.  Include page numbers from Chudacoff and a full reference to outside sources if consulted.  Include at least one image in your post and one paragraph of text.  You need not make a full comparison between the cities.  Just comparing one aspect of society at one particular time is sufficient.  Try to pick a city that has not yet been written about – if they have all been used, compare a different aspect of that city to NYC.

I would like to compare and contrast NYC with Tennessee in the 1800s. Tennessee in the early 1800s was still growing as a state, being bought from the Native American tribes. Over 50% were English, Scottish, and Irish, and 20% were African American slaves. Unlike New York City, Tennessee was mainly for farming and producing everyday products. Tennessee and New York City used slaves as their main source of labor. They traded and sold slaves to each other. Slavery was a major part of both NYC and Tennessee.

I will be comparing bosten with new york. The british blockade of the port seriously damaged the economy. The city recovered after 1800 becoming the transportation hub for the New England with its network of railroad and even more educational and medical center of the nation. Along with New York, Boston was the financial center of the United States in the 19th century
