Assignment due June 9, 2010
1) Return to the 2 posts you have made so far. Return to those posts by clicking “Edit posts” on the upper-right hand corner of the blog. You will see a list of your previous posts, and have the option to “edit” under each. For each, choose any categories that are appropriate (from the drop-down list in the right hand side of the editing screen where it says “Categories”). Add at least three tags that describe the essence of your post (type in the words in the “Post Tags” section, also on the right hand side). The tags should preferably be one or two word phrases. I will demonstrate categorizing and tagging in class.
2) Choose 2-3 posts written by others in the class. In the comments section (below the post when you click on it) write 1-3 sentences describing how you reacted to seeing or hearing the post, or the event represented in the post. Please be respectful and if you criticize anything do so constructively.

Assignment due June 8, 2010
UPDATE: I forgot to do a walk through in class of how to add a YouTube video to a post. As I did mention in class, I have instructed posted in the Blog Support section of this site. I want to emphasize that all you need to do is insert the URL (web address) of the video into the body of the post. You won’t see the video right away, but when you publish the post, the video will appear embedded in your post. For example, if I want to embed a video of Baruch commencement in 2009, I enter this text in my message while compsing/editing: “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcAX7KSdOWs”; when I publish it magically turns into this:
Identify an audio or video file that was released between 1989 and 2000, which you feel represents an important historical moment during that period. The video may be a song, an interview, live video footage, etc. As far as possible, be sure to credit the artist who created the video. I have added some brief instructions on how to embed a video in the Blog Support section of this site. Write 2-3 sentences explaining what the file shows and why it is important to U.S. history.

Assignment Due June 7, 2010
For this assignment, everyone in the class is expected to make a post.
Post an image that represents an important event in American history that took place between 1865 and the present. It may be something as local as your neighborhood or as large as a World War. In either a caption or the first sentence of your post, please note where you found the picture and as far as possible give credit to the original creator of the image. I will show you in class how to link to the image in its original location. Please choose an image that you are comfortable having shared on the open World Wide Web.
For instructions on writing a post and inserting images in WordPress, please consult this page. If you have trouble inserting an image for this first post, you may post a description of the image and email me the image file, which I will insert.
After your image, write 1-2 sentences describing the basic facts about the image (where, when, and what). Write an additional 1-2 sentences explaining why the event depicted (or the image itself) is important to you or a group to which you belong (family, community, nation, etc.).
As you may have already noticed, our course blog has a rotating header. In an effort to make the space feel “like home” to our course as quickly as possible, I will use images that you post for this assignment.
