Prohibition

During the period between 1920-1933 alcohol was banned in America. Under the 18th Amendment and Volstead Act the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol was illegal. The prohibition of alcohol led to underground crime organizations.Crime increased and prisons were being filled. Prohibition led to a decrease in tax revenue and increase in government spending. Al Capone became wealthy by leading an alcohol smuggling organization in Chicago. The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment in 1933.
