Mitsubishi and Japan (1948)

This train was built by Mitsubishi in 1948. It was part of the newer fleets introduced in Japan with new wheel arrangements.

The reconstruction of Japan took place in 1948 when the country endorsed a new, democratic constitution under the management of General Douglas MacArthur. Landlordism was eradicated and women gained to vote for the first time. Not only was Japan reformed socially, but the economic reconstruction served the interests of many American capitalists. The nation’s industrial base was rebuilt for both economic and anticommunists motive. With the help of American economists, Japan began to step up with newer technologies for the market. Due to its restricted military policy, Japan’s economy skyrocketed and left military spending on the minimum. One type of technology that evolved is the picture of the train above. The trains consisted of newer technologies: reduction in size and weight to provide faster speed. The train in the picture above was built by one of Japan’s giant industrial corporations: Mitsubishi.
