Artist Statement

My work is an extension of the never-ending thoughts I experience before I go to bed or whenever I walk home from school. These are the conversations and different scenarios that could have happened if I pursued a certain action. Some of them get ugly, while others create a world of butterflies and unicorns.

It hurts my brain sometimes whenever I hit this stream of daydream and wishful thinking. To get rid of this, I usually write a song about it. However, I cannot write a song about everything, I have to channel it   through a different medium; a medium that I can visualize. This dilemma sparked my interest in creating videos of fictional narrative and social documentaries. Filmmaking provides elements that are hard to create or experience from other mediums, such as sound effects, lighting, point of view and many more.

My work may have been influenced by music videos that are “storyline-centric”, rather than, music videos that has no connection whatsoever to the song. My focus is on the non-verbal interactions because I believe that “action speaks louder than words.” I believe my work can convey its meaning to the audience with minimal dialogue yet maximized actions. Although my work focuses on what is happening, the message is not spoon-fed to the audience as it still gives them the chance to think and give their own definition of my artwork.

This is hard.
