Mitsui Lunchtime Series

Connecting Students with Global Leaders

Every month, the Weissman Center for International Business hosts the Mitsui Lunchtime Series, an initiative that aims to provide International Business students with valuable insights into the professional world. These events consistently draw a strong turnout of IB students eager to learn from and connect with industry leaders. This year, we hosted three inspiring speakers who shared their professional journeys, industry expertise, and advice with the students.

Alex Schukin, CFA

Alex Schukin, a Baruch alumnus, reflected on his ambitious journey at Baruch College, where he co-founded the Investment Management Group (IMG) and was an active member of the Swimming/Diving Team. As a Partner at American Industrial Partners (AIP), an operationally-oriented middle-market private equity firm, Alex shared how his experiences as a student shaped his career trajectory.

Alex emphasized the importance of building networks and developing leadership skills early on—insights particularly relevant to IB students navigating their own career paths.

Enrico Prodi, Director of Operations at Eataly, Flatiron

Enrico introduced students to Eataly’s unique business model, which is built around the “eat-shop-learn” concept, offering a global selection of high-quality Italian restaurants. His presentation provided an insider’s perspective on managing operations for a globally recognized brand.

Following this Mitsui event, the International Business Club, led by President Briana Carchi, took the opportunity to deepen the learning experience by organizing a tour of Eataly for IB students on December 3. Students explored the operational intricacies of Eataly’s flagship store in Flatiron and gained a hands-on understanding of managing an international business. Read more here.

Robert Aquilina, Executive Vice President, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.

Mr. Aquilina captivated the audience with the story of Estée Lauder’s transformation from a primarily U.S.-focused company to a global powerhouse operating in nearly 100 countries. His role in facilitating this expansion resonated deeply with IB students interested in global strategy and business development.

Ceren Soyugurlu, a Baruch alumna now working at Estée Lauder, attended the event. She mentioned that it was inspiring to hear Bob’s journey at Estée Lauder as a CUNY graduate from Queens College. She added that it reminded her of how far a CUNY education can take you and that it was sentimental to see his advocacy for Baruch College.

Each of these events not only provided students with insights into global business but also opened doors to professional networking and real-world applications. The Mitsui Lunchtime Series continues to provide IB students with opportunities to learn, grow, and connect.
