Join us for an engaging book talk event with Javier Puente, Chair and Associate Professor of Latin American and Latino/a Studies from Smith College, who will be discussing “The Rural State: Making Comunidades, Campesinos, and Conflict in Peru’s Central Sierra”.

This insightful book explores the complex social, economic and political dynamics of rural Peru, and offers a compelling analysis of the challenges facing indigenous communities in the face of state development policies. This event is open to all members of the community who are interested in learning more about the intersections of rural development, indigenous rights and state power, and want to engage with a leading scholar in the field.
