Waseda – Baruch Exchange Program (Due: Feb. 16th, 2018)

Last year, the Study Abroad Office at Baruch College has introduced the exchange program with Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan). This year’s application due is quickly approaching: February 16th, 2018. This due date is earlier than the ones for other programs, offered by the Study Abroad program. Please consider and take this wonderful opportunity. If you are interested in or have questions, contact the Study Abroad Office, ASAP.

 https://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/faculty-research/centers-institutes/weissman-center-international-business/study-abroad/programs/exchanges/

This is the message from Mr. Christopher Tingue at the Study Abroad Office.:

“Because of Waseda’s own internal exchange deadlines, we are asking prospective Baruch-Waseda Exchange applicants to apply by Feb. 16. This is a month before our regular March 15 deadline for fall programs. This will give the Study Abroad Office just under two weeks to interview and nominate top candidates AND then for us to instruct the nominated applicants as to how to apply by no later than March 1 to Waseda for their fall semester.

Waseda’s system to apply is open from Feb 1 to March 1, but first students will need to apply to us. Last year, which was our first sending them students, they worked with us to take late applications. Now they want us to meet their deadlines this time around for fall. (For spring there is not a similar crunch so our deadline of Oct 1 works fine.)

Can you communicate to interested students taking Japanese or minors that if they want to apply for the fall 18 exchange at Waseda that they must apply by Feb. 16?

The Conversation Partners Program (CPP)

The Conversation Partners Program (CPP) matches native and nonnative speakers of English for informal conversations. The partnerships are a great way for nonnative students to gain confidence in English, for native speakers to gain experience in communicating across language barriers, and for both native and nonnative speakers to expand their cultural knowledge, make friends, and build a network of professional contacts. To participate, students should be willing to commit to meeting their partner about one hour per week for a minimum of 6 conversations. We also feature fun events throughout the semester, like trivia night, tea time, game night, professional development, and a closing ceremony for community building.

Please let your students know the following dates:

  • Application Deadline: February 15, 2018
  • Orientation Option 1: February 15, 2018, 12:45 pm-2:00 pm
  • Orientation Option 2: February 28, 2018, 6:00 pm-7:15 pm

To download the flyer for Blackboard, Blog, or Course Site, please visit this link and click on the flyer at the bottom:   http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/cpp

Note: CPP often has more nonnative than native students signing up so please encourage both nonnative and native speakers to participate.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact me via email: [email protected] Thank you!

Best,

Elizabeth Minei, Ph.D.
