I liked this video because the author of this video is not only telling the summary, but she actually explains the plot in a funny way. The author started with introducing the book’s author. However, what I found most interesting is the symbolism of the characters’ names. The name of the main character is Don Quixote de la Mancha. As the author in the video says, la Mancha means stain in Spanish. The name itself is telling us that the character, Don Quixote, is imperfect. He became crazy because of the books that he read and started to believe that he himself is a knight and did all kinds of crazy things out of his imagination. Another symbolism in the story would be Don Quixote’s horse, Rocinante. The author explains that Rocinante means “workhorse.” We can infer that workhorse is not meant to fight. Just like Don Quixote, Rocinante is not strong enough to fight like a knight.
In the end, the author in the video explains that Don Quixote realized that everything is not real, it was all imagination that he created. He also says he would give all his things to his niece if she promises not to marry a man like him who’s too addicted into this kind of books. Just when he came back to reality, he’s preparing to leave reality again because his imagination is too different from reality. He’s preparing to leave this world and die.
I think the main lesson of this book is that we shouldn’t get too addicted or involved into certain things. We should know when is the right time to stop and leave before it is too late. It is true that you might find happiness and joy during that short period of time, but pain comes in the end.
