Coffee and tea corner at Foster Sundry’s
So you wanted to get a nice, freshly brewed cup of joe. But then you also needed some raw goat cheese, locally made spicy honey and chicken-kale sausage… not to mention a place to work on your latest screenplay and enjoy a prosciutto sandwich. Thanks to Foster Sundry all of the above are possible.
“Sundry means ‘assorted goods, general store,” said Owen Colas, the lead barista. “We’re a grocery store, a cheese shop, an animal butcher and cafe. One stop for all your needs.”
The coffee served at the bar is shipped in weekly from Parlor Coffee, that was started at the back of a barber shop. The Sundry orders the prospect blend, formerly known as the stockist blend.
“The blend has floral notes, it’s a lighter roast with great complexity,” said Colas, while I sipped an espresso pulled from the blend. “It has notes of bright fruit with a caramel finish. It’s clean, refreshing and delicate.”
The beverages are made from a batch brew, which speaks about the high performance of the baristas: they draw out and create different flavor profiles from the same roast. An espresso shot at the Sundry is tangy and bright, while the drip was more mild, smooth and earthier.
The Sundry’s ultimate goal is for every customer to have superior customer service, as Calos put it, “people here are passionate and talented about what they do.” They want you to have a great experience while you shop for your gourmet essentials.
Everything in the store is seasonal, local and fresh. And maybe if you didn’t find what you need, you were still treated like an old friend.
