The artist i decided to go with for this reading is called Charles Cohen. I believe this artist is someone who truly captures art by creating & grasping his audiences attention from his magnificient artwork displayed. From the pictures we have seen in the reading itself he almost makes our minds think of what the missing image could be. For example it looks like two women leaning on a bed in a sort of platonic pornographic way. The question the viewer who is perceiving this image must ask themselves is if the image was not voided out would it be seen as artwork? What if the people in the picture weren’t doing what we had imagined previously before it was blank. Just as the reading says “Absence becomes a presence in its own right” showing us that even though its voided out of the picture we somewhat want to know what it is that is missing even though we sort of already have an idea of what it really is. Erasure as explained to us is a key concept to images like the one displayed in Cohen’s artwork. Just because the main part of an image is missing people must assume & think what would have been placed there or even what the people might look like. Sort of as if making the viewer make up their own story of what the missing person would look like. The artist seems to make us open up our imagination in a way that we start to question ourselves. When different people view these images displayed do they perceive it differently as we might? Overall i believe this was a very interesting read & after that i would definitely look into Cohen’s Artwork more because i seem to find him very interesting & smart.
