This is what I do when I’m not with you. Pt.1

Alright, so has this ever happened to you: You see a small creature (like a bee) and just want to go all paparazzi on it? No? Well you’re really missing out! This is something you have to do, even if you only have a point-and-shoot camera, like I do, go out there and take a picture of anything, big or small. I prefer pictures of small things because they look so intriguing when you can see all the details that we wouldn’t normally see right away.

Like I said, right now I am only using a point-and-shoot camera. My camera is a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS Digital Elph and I LOVE it. It has definitely helped me capture some GREAT macro shots (those are the really up close, detailed pictures) of bugs, insects, arachnids, flowers and my little Domo figurines, just to name a few.

Anyway, back to paparazzi! So yeah, with my trusty camera, I really get into taking macro shots. I absolutely love it. And sometimes my targets stay put and model for me. Maybe they’re just trying the whole “If I stay still, he won’t notice me” method or maybe the “I’m not doing anything interesting, leave” method; they don’t work on me, I’ll still snap pictures of you until I am satisfied. I can do this all day baby! And I have to admit that I have really gotten some great shots, pictures that I can be proud of (as proud as any amateur photographer can get). And right now, I just want to share one of those shots with you.

Bee on the ground

Like it? 🙂 I encourage you to try it now.

Very cool! It occurs to me that there is a whole world out there that we are aware of but don’t know what it looks like. Yes, the insect world. Insects look like no other life we are familiar with–miniature monsters, dragons, armored vehicles, etc. As clear as the photo of the bee is, it doesn’t do justice to its intricacies. Try taking the same bee head-on. The result would be fascinating, and frightening.

Interesting, indeed. I believe we all take the small details for granted. You should definitely keep posting these pictures, especially flowers (I love flowers). The Botanical Gardens or the Butterfly Garden at the Bronx Zoo would be perfect for you (they can’t fly out of the room!)

First off, that’s a dope photograph. It’s pretty impressive that you snapped that on a small digital camera. Although the quality of your image looks great, there’s a program I would HIGHLY recommend for all your images. Check out “Noise Ninja” and tell me what you think. It removes most of the noise in your images to give you that extra bit of clarity. I recently photographed a bar mitzvah service and was pleasantly surprised at how well the program cleaned up my pics. Happy shooting!

I loved that you like to take random pictures. You just inspired me to take more pictures. I like taking pictures of the sky. The sky always has a different color. It’s never the same shade of blue on a clear sunny day. I also like taking pictures of tree. No two trees ever have branches going the same way. Everything in nature is unique and I like capturing that “uniqueness”.

I love this kind of photography as well. If you can get small (or creative) enough, there’s a whole new world of subjects down there that can seem completely alien, if you can find the right composition. Plus, stuff like this can be submitted to Encounters (Baruch’s literary/arts bi-annual magazine) which gives you a nice medium to show your pictures to other Baruch students, and an ego boost to boot.

That bee, looks deathly afraid of you. This is incredible. More intriguing is that just yesterday it occurred to me that I really want a better camera so I would be inspired to take photos like this.

Okay, this was with a point and shoot? That’s amazing. I always say that I’m going to pay more attention and keep my camera with me, and this kind of makes me want to actually stick to it this time!

    Cool.. creepy photo..
Are you familiar with tilt-shift photography? It is really awesome and makes everything look like toys. Look at the link, all of the stuff is real!

I like this topic a lot!

This shot is awesome. I keep trying to get shots like these (and I’ve tried with bees) but I’m too scared to get too close without zooming in.
And I agree, taking pictures of small things always make detail stand out.
