WEDNESDAY, NOV. 26:
First day of in-class production of multimedia features for class project. Bring all unedited files for ONE feature, either the video or the second multimedia feature, to begin editing. I will review your material and will begin guiding you on the direction of your edits. Students using laptops to edit are required to be in class WITH their computers to work on their features and to get feedback from professor.
MONDAY, DEC 1:
Second day of in-class production. Bring files to class to do production.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 3
First draft of written article due. Fully reported 800- to 1,000-word story. FULL LETTER PENALTY WILL BE IMPOSED ON FINAL STORY GRADE FOR EACH DAY THIS ASSIGNMENT IS LATE. I will give back first edits the following Monday, and I will expect you to do additional reporting and one, maybe two, rewrites based on my comments. Class time devoted multimedia production. Students should aim to have completed production of first multimedia feature (either video or second feature) by this day.
MONDAY, DEC. 8
Fourth day of in-class production. Students should begin work on their second multimedia feature — whatever they didn’t do the first week of production.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 10
Final day of in-class production. By the end of this class, you should have completed both multimedia features, and uploaded features to appropriate hosting site. (Note, please allow time to export video and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo as this is not a quick process). I will schedule extra lab time during these final weeks of the semester.
HOMEWORK OVER WEEKEND OF DEC. 13-14
Post your story, multimedia features to the blog (SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE GIVEN CLOSER TO THE DATE). You will be graded on the final presentation of the project — Interesting, appropriate headline, photos to illustrate story, placement of multimedia features in the text and sub-headlines, if needed. Do not take this portion of the assignment lightly, take time to get it right.
MONDAY, DEC. 15
Student presentations of projects and in-class screenings. Final edits as needed. Attendance required.
