Podcast Ideas

For this podcasting assignment, I am interested in reporting on the closing of the 9th Street Bakery an East Village staple since its opening in 1926. The building’s landlord is doubling the rent and the bakery’s owners can no longer afford to pay. This is an unfortunate yet common trend in Manhattan’s older bakeries. I would hope to interview the owners as well as a loyal customer to get their opinions on the subject matter.

If this topic doesn’t work out, I would also like to interview the owner of a tiny restaurant in my neighborhood called Heidi’s House by the Side of the Road. The owner, Heidi herself, is also the bartender, hostess,  and waitress. In such a struggling economy I find it inspiring that one woman can orchestrate so much singlehandedly- plus, the place is always packed! I would love to get her secret to good business and loyal customers.
