One idea I had for my final project was to investigate the demolition of 5 Pointz, a famous graffiti “mecca” of sorts located in Long Island City. It has been said for years that they are planning to replace 5 Pointz with a high rise residential building, causing a lot of controversy within the community, not just among residents but artists as well. Nothing has seemed to come of it yet, or at least no one has really spoken about it, so I figured it would be interesting to try to get some interviews, maybe from people who work at 5 Pointz or various other outlets associated with the building to see if I could find some answers.

Another option was to follow up on the progress of the 2nd Avenue Subway. It has essentially ruined businesses on the Upper East Side that are in it’s path and it would be interesting to talk to owners of shops and restaurants there to see what they think of the project. There are also a lot of construction sites still up so maybe I could interview a construction worker or two, if they are willing to speak to me, about the length of time left until it is finished.
