For my final project, I’d like to take a look at the current shift in demographics and culture occurring in New York’s Lower East Side. Recently, many of the ‘mom and pop’ stores and family-owned restaurants have been getting replaced with chains such as Starbucks and 711. I’d like to speak to the store-owners that have been able to survive the shift and get their opinion on the matter. The Lower East Side is a very vibrant neighborhood so I think a photo slideshow featuring audio from those that I interview would come out very nicely.
