Fashion is one thing that I am particularly passionate about, so I thought an idea for the end-of-semester project could be fashion at a commuter school, specifically Baruch College. Even more specifically, one always hears/sees that students who go to schools with on-site dorms and housing go to class in basically their pajamas. They seem to be able to walk right out of bed and into the classroom – no judgement passed. However, going to school in an extremely metropolitan (and cosmopolitan) city like New York City, Baruch students don’t seem to have that luxury. You won’t be able to walk down the 25th Street plaza without seeing at least five students dressed to the nines. This occurs for more than one reason, including, one, you never know who you will run into or meet in a bustling city like New York, and two, there’s a persistent power struggle among everyone you pass by in this city. Each person is trying to one-up the other. It’s the survival of the fittest in this concrete jungle and, in this case, the most well-dressed as well.
If I do follow through with this idea, I think the most effective way to present it would be through an audio slideshow. I would interview Baruch students from across the spectrum – from most casually dressed to most well dressed. I think the results, both in picture form and as far as what students have to say, could be very interesting as well as relevant.
