Pro’s & Con’s of Social Networking Sites

People who are usually shy or not outspoken can use social networking as a type of shield to overcome that. Social networking is a platform, rather more a site that concentrates on building and reflecting of social networks.

Big business use Facebook as means of attracting customers educating the public about their services and you can use this to your advantage when looking for a job, in term as of your career research the company get to see what their culture is like that’s the potential for you.

I started using Facebook as a means of staying connected and not only have you been in touch with friends but I have expanded professional contacts as well. I found an engineering firm through Facebook and was scheduled an interview on the phone and then in person luckily I got appointed for the job and now earning a decent salary, but you have to be cautious what you put out there it can greatly influence your image based on what you put out there even if you don’t mean for that to happen because of stalkers, spams and etc. Limiting personal information also helps.

Some of the Cons of social networking sites that I faced were the first thing i did was when I turned the laptop on would go to Facebook and spend hours on it, due to this habit. I lacked going to the gym put on additional pounds, also stopped reading books and spend less and less time with family, eventually started to fiddle off in school work. Finally when I realized my mistakes so I temporary deactivated my Facebook account and focused in everything else, learned how to manage my time and responsibility so I was able to activate my account and since everything has worked out fine.

If you’re using FB for professional purposes, how do you limit the social stuff? What do you now not share given how you’re using FB? How have you limited the personal information on FB?

“Big businesses use facebook as a means of attracting customers, and on educating the general public about their goods and services, and people can use that to there advantage”. This statement is so very true because of facebook’s potential to reach so many people at the same time. However there is a downside to all this, especially to individuals who use the site in ways that reflect negatively on themselves. Employers also go on these networks to see what their employees and potential employees are doing.

As we all know, nowadays almost all companies have a face-book page from which they take questions (queries), comments or concerns. I.e. my friend who works for the marketing company, he solely works for their face-book fan page which is a good example of use of professionalism on face-book.
I have limited my personal information online while I now share my professional information related to my career advancement only to provide a boost to my professional contacts via networking through face-book. I have now joined many companies fan page- and subscribed to many professional organizations on face-book only to gain proficient connections in near future

I think that one of the wonderful uses of facebook is to connect to jobs, but it is important to be careful of the information in the facebook page, and to be sure that the page that you are connecting is in fact from an employer and not one fake, like those phishing pages
