A Modest Proposal – Jonathan Swift.

A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift was absolutly one of the most surprisring writings I’ve ever read. At first I wasn’t sure If I was understanding what I was reading, I questioned myself “is he really trying to end poverty by eating babies? “ seems like I was correct after looking up more information about the essay. As crazy as it sounds I understand that he was just trying to help Ireland by figureing out an affordable way to pretty much get rid of all these babies from familes that are out in the street begging.

“A young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled.” – A Modest Proposal

I honestly didn’t know what to think about this essay, and yes the children might not grow up to have a great life and like Jonathan said they will most likely grow up to be thieves. That still doesn’t give anyone the right to take an innocent baby’s life away. Abortion is abortion whether is happens before or after the baby is born. My other thought was if they sell their babies they will eventually earn enough money to provide for them selves and older children. Either way if he was being sarcastic I feel terrible for those who took his advice.
