The Tattooer

After reading the tattooer, I really enjoyed the ending where Seikichi felt a compassionate connection to the woman through a simple tattoo. This compassion even reminds me of the impact that tattooing has today and with several relationships. I felt as if it were a modern take on a love relationship through a certain gesture. Instead of writing a love letter or an archaic way of expressing love, a tattoo is a different, and modern approach. Today, when two people are in love, whether it’s a mother and daughter, or husband and wife, a way to express their deep and embedded feelings towards one another is to get a tatoo showing their “permanent” love towards one another.

The only aspect that I found was odd, was how in the beginning, Seikichi had a real pleasure in creating pain for his “patients.” I felt as if he was only tattooing to create pain for others. But overall, i really enjoyed this modern take between a man and women and their relationship.
