On the first read of Gertrude Stein’s portraits I was unsure of how to approach the text. I wasn’t sure what type of cadence to use when trying to rummage the barrage of repetitive words and phrases. But then I started looking at it differently and found a deeper meaning in the word play. Every word is carefully chosen and Stein is showing how the most subtle difference in word arrangement or word choice can completely change the meaning of a sentence. This helps her express many different ideas without using a lot of text.
I thought the text was difficult to read at first but after closely examining it I thought her writing style gave you a unique perspective with which to view her work.
