Blog Homework 3 – Johnson Ding

creative-and-brilliant-billboard-ad-campaigns-2
I think this billboard is very successful, because the imagine gives a clear message of promoting Law & Order in a very creative way. It grabs attention and works with the environment. The design looks lively and real. There doesn’t have to be any quotes or writing because the picture already delivered the message.

gym-man-small-67061
I think this advertisement by Gold’s Gym is very successful because it grabbed my attention and the picture works very well with the quote “Put away your winter clothes” . It is very creative and it is also very motivating. I like the zipper theme, which is in the picture and near the quote.
surfrider-glove-gr
I think this advertisement is successful because it delivers the message, that the beach doesn’t clean itself. The photo shows a broken glove trying to pick up itself on a beach. It put focus on to the trash and the glove because the background of the beach is very empty.
baby-ronald
I think this is an unsuccessful McDonald’s advertisement because the message unclear and confusing. It trying to deliver the message that a new McDonald’s opened by showing a baby Ronald McDonald. The text on the top is too small and hard to read. The baby clown can mean many different things for example like a horror movie.
McDonalds-Finland
I think this is another unsuccessful McDonald’s advertisement because the message is also unclear and weird. Its trying to deliver the message the real milkshake now with double flavor with a picture of an udder making a peace sign. This advertisement doesn’t make milkshake appetizing.
aquafresh-print_ad
This advertisement of Aquafresh is unsuccessful because the message is presented in a odd way. It is trying to deliver the message that  flexigel is a flexible toothbrush by showing a toothbrush going in from the mouth and coming out from the ear. It looks painful rather than useful.

Punchcutting- Johnson Ding

The video presented great info about punch cutting and showed how it works. Punch cutting takes a lot of preparation  and effort to set up and use. I can’t imagine designing with punch cutting because even the slightest mistake can ruin the whole project and make you redo the project all over again. In today’s world, we are lucky to have advanced technologies that helps and allows us do all kinds of creative and crazy designs. With a simple undo command we can clear the mistakes and not worry about redoing the whole project.

What is Graphic Design? – Johnson Ding

This article brought up very important points about graphic design, the point that caught my attention the most was the line “a picture is indeed worth a thousand words”. I believe that pictures have a far greater impact on people compare to just words. Pictures can project deeper meanings and it can communicate to everyone without language barriers. For example like the “Superman logo” verses the words “Superman”, the S symbol will grab more attention than the words can. I feel like looking at pictures and symbol, it allow you to trigger the memories about it but when looking at words, it make you picture them in your head. Therefore pictures are able to give you a faster and better visual of things than words can.

My question to the author is about coloring. Since the coloring is a big part of designing and using different colors can give different moods and feelings to the design. However people have different taste in colors and different interpretations. Therefore how do we choose the best colors that will not ruin the design and appeal the most audiences? For example Superman’s colors are blue, red and yellow, which seems to represent the American flag. If he was made in different colors then he wouldn’t have the same effects on people. I think choosing the colors that best describes the message of the design is better than choosing the color that appeals to the audiences because the market is becoming more and more global. It is more ideal to have audiences come to you rather than you going to your audiences.
