Hello Everybody,
In my opinion, determining whether a design works or not is based on the meaning behind the design. If I were evaluating a design, I wouldn’t look and see whether it were too complex or too simple, I would look at what the design was made for. I would also look to see if the design matches its meaning.
A design I didn’t like was the 2012 London Olympics design.
I feel that this represents London in no way what so ever. The Olympics are world-wide and every year, the culture of the host city is represented in the logo. To me, I see no elements of London, or their culture in this. It is a clever design, but it doesn’t work for me.
Dr. Zizmor Subway Design.
This design is the subway poster of the infamous Dr. Zizmor, a dermatologist. There is nothing in the poster that represents a good design except for the fact that it is so poorly designed that people remember it because they are overwhelmed by this terrible poster. The colors don’t match well with the text, the alignment just isn’t good.
Choking Poster.
This poster for what to do when someone is choking is famous but I personally don’t like the design. The colors to me don’t mix well with the text because it becomes hard to read the black text when the color changes from yellow to purple as the background.
A design that works for me is the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Game logo.
What I think works with this Vector Logo is every single element and detail in this design. The facade that goes around Yankee Stadium (the location of the All-Star Game) is something that is known about Yankee Stadium. The Yankees Organization is very famous for wearing pinstripes alone. The Yankees stand for class so the typeface in the design is simple, and classy. The colors are representative of the New York Yankees, and I believe this design works.
The Obama Hope Campaign poster.
First and foremost, I choose no political side.
The simplicity in the poster is what makes it work for me. The contrasting colors that represent the United States in the Red White and Blue work perfectly for me. The word of “HOPE” at the bottom is all that his campaign is about. It is bold to really show that it is a strong message. Then President Obama himself on the poster looking into the distant as if he has hope makes the poster work.
ING Marathon (NYC)
I am a person of clean designs and this one is one that I like. The white background contrasts well with the navy blue and orange text. The Sponsor with their logo, Location, and slogan are all presented clearly on this design.
