I believe the design of this Nikewomen’s advertisement is successful. The message was made to empower female athletes and women in general.  The contrast between the grey image of a woman and the colorful background makes this piece interesting.  The words do not take away from the image. Instead they help get the message across by representing the curvature of a woman’s hips.

This design was used as an ad for kitkat. I thought this was utter brillance. Everyone pretty much knew what it was. It looks like a kit kat that had it wrapper slightly ripped off. The ad also serves as a chair as well.

movethecity

I thought the design was successful because they turn the city and made it look as it was part of a bicycle wheel. The text was nice and big so you knew it was about a marathon. The idea was about the marathon in the city.

The design for this was smart. It was centered towards the males. They put the car inside a glass box. It resembles those glass boxes where it say ” break in case of emergency ” but instead it says break in case of adventure. The car itself give a sense of adventure and they  wanted you to have that idea

.levi5_25

This was a rather unsuccessful design in that they had the jeans in the picture but the idea of jeans was not there. It was put in a rather unique situation that would not make the buyer say ohh I want to buy a pair of jeans.

Car-Financing-Ad

This design was for a car. There is a picture of a car ” sort of”. The car not really there. The words don’t match the picture. The picture look more for eggs than a car. The words can not relate to the picture.

pepsi-twist

The design for this doesn’t work. The idea of adding a new flavor is great. The idea of a lime pissing in your drink is not. It provides a revolting idea about your drink which you do not want you consumer to have.

I think this was successfully designed because the context is so clear and apparent to anyone who looks at it. Personalizing your own post is saying something about yourself, and I thought it was interesting and clever how they inserted a mirror as the stamp.

come-a-little-closer

At first I thought this was a little mortifying, but then I understood what it meant and I thought that it was executed very well. Many deaths occur because people are too close to the track and end up falling onto it. This design is so prominent with the negative space that when you look at it, the first thing you say is, “WHOA! I need to step back.”

ipod-music

I’ve always enjoyed Apple’s designs because they are intriguing and catching to the eye. This one really stood out to me because it goes well with the message they are trying to sell. The ipods represent a piano which makes music, and you can listen to this music on an ipod. I think that the purple background was perfect to the apparent white and black ipods.

badlawyerad0001

I think this design for a lawyer is poorly designed because I don’t know where to even begin to read. The color scheme is all over the place, and the important words are not prominent and pleasing to the eye. It is almost straining to look at this design.

rapscallions

This is another design that I think is too crowded because there are different colors going on, and too much text for a design like this. I think that it could work with less text and one color text.

Successful and Unsuccessful designs

b0f3dfb765ffdfac8b55749280c2bc5d

This design has images that is totally relate to the context of the design. However, I believe that it has too much wording and  some words such as “coffee,” “exotic,” “soccer” and so on don’t have a contrast between the word and the background. It basically those words disappear on the design. I think that those words should have different font color.

cover-image-infographics

This design is all opposite from the first one, the background is lighter than the words and it gives a natural contrast between both of them. The type of font color illumines the poster, and it has a mix of font colors.

deeply-graphic

I believe that this design works as well as the previous one, the background color doesn’t affect the message. The mix of texture and font between pink, black and white color make the design very interesting and attractive. It is easy to read the message.

images-2

On the other hand, the red and white color design doesn’t work together as the previous one. I think that this design need a different color of background, because the flag and the last paragraph don’t show up as the “U.S. Navy” and “AO”

ivy_tai

This design has a lot of images on it, but it works perfectly. I am able to see the contrast between the letter and the background color. Dark background means lighter font color and vice versa. Also, the color of the images are the same used for the letters. I think it works perfectly.

images-1

I dislike this design, because the colors weren’t used properly. Even though, I said previously that dark background means lighter font color, in this design you don’t see the connection between colors. If I don’t pay much attention to the design and word “IN” I couldn’t tell that was there. I believe, the background shouldn’t be white because the letter “adventure” disappears on the design.

WholePaws-RegisterGraphics_400x600_Dog

I like this design because it has a good quality of picture, nice dog, and slogan. But, i guess it would be better to have a picture of product. Because, as for me if it’s meat food, better to see if it pate or chunks. Some pets prefer one or another. So, i think it is unsuccessful design.

burger-king-bk-super-seven-incher-advertisement-picture

Unsuccessful Design because it is not really say why it taste better right now. For me this picture just creates double meaning and I think it is cheap and bad taste of designing.

386887073_640

Unsuccessful Design because of the blurry picture, which doesn’t represent the Dominican Republic. I like the typefaces they used and logo.

BASINGSTOKE-PRODUCT-PHOTOGRAPHY-COMMERCIAL-PROFESSIONAL-NAIL-BANNER-CREATIVE-SHELLAC

Successful design. I like everything in this design:  typefaces, logo, saturated colors, and pictures. Wouldn’t change anything i think the author fully disclosed the idea of the product.

48581_Boxing

Successful design. Very creative design that displays our reality, gives us some idea and impetus and stimulus.

10000986-et-loofah-exfoliating-scrub-aloe-and-kiwi-p475-b-a

Successful design. I found this design very nice. Everything made in one tone with kiwi: green color of frame, some words, and lines. Nice use of space, size of word, and pictures. Smooth transition from one text to another

Good Design and Bad Design

GC 2

I think this ad is a very effective one. It instantly tells the viewers that smoking can cause a disease. The dirt is shown in a dying person figure.

GC 10

This ad is pretty successful. It simply uses French fries to illustrate the logo of wifi. It tells the viewers that there’s wifi in McDonald by using French fries which is one of the most popular food in McDonald.

GC 5

This ad is telling that its color pencils are identical to real colors of real things. This ad shows that purple color is resemble to eggplant’s color.

GC 8

I think this ad does not tell its purpose. This picture doesn’t show the effect after applying the mascara. The ad should show the lushes are extended and the volumes are increased on a model.

GC 4

This is an ineffective ad. Using a lizard doesn’t really tell the meaning of its slogan “natural protection.”

GC 9

This adidas ad cannot tell what product they are selling. It’s just simply a landscape photo.

Blog #3 Unsuccessful/Successful designs

spartan_m

This logo for Spartan Golf is great. It’s very sophisticated, but at the same time very clean cut and sharp. The motion of the golf club swing and man swinging it himself make the shape of the side profile a spartan soldier. It’s a double image and people are always intrigued by those so I feel like it’s one people will easily remember. I love the use of the white space, and how it’s all black. I think the spaced out lettering works great underneath because it gives the head somewhat of a platform to rest on, and overall I think it’s a very well thought out  and clever design.

photo
Here is a spread from a page in Nylon magazine. I think it’s a very successful design because it’s very unique, creative and fun. I love how the pictures look as though they’re cut out and placed on as a collage. I feel like collages are hard to create and be successful at looking good, but here I love it and think the designer did a great job. I think it’s important to pay attention to the overall shape the images collaged together will make, especially regarding the border. I think what plays a big role in making it successful is the bit of collage/photos on the bottom because it balances it out with the top, and brings the whole piece together. I also love the two little captions, word, and texas illustration are thrown in random places but consistent in color and font. I also think the text works well at the size it is, it’s tiny and allowing the images to dominant the page but it’s still readable. Something that caught my attention was how the paragraphs all start at different heights, and this inconsistency works here because it goes along with this messy, thrown on there vibe you get from looking at the piece.

photoHere is an ad for Baby-G watches, and I think it’s a successful design. It’s very colorful, but the white background and three white watches stop it from being too colorful and balance it out. I think that the text bordering around the image works well and gives the ad movement.

Next is this Rays. This isn’t a horrible design, but it’s far from clever. Also, the little golden sparkle just doesn’t seem to fit for what a sports team should want to represent. I feel like it’s very dainty and feminine, and it just reminds of something you would see on a jeweler logo. And plotting the team name “Rays” on top of a baseball field? It just seems unoriginal. When you’re representing a specific sports team, I feel like the logo should be unique and personal to that particular team. Not contain something that any team could have used.

photo-1

Here I feel like there’s too much going on next to the photograph. I think there’s too much illustration, and the photograph itself is very strong and all that’s next to it isn’t necessarily needed. I also think it looks funny how the text next to the photo lines up with the head, then lines up with the ear.

Yahoo_Logo

Here is the new Yahoo design which was just reviled a couple of months ago and I really dislike it. I think the 3D effect looks too cheesy. While reading peoples’ comments on the new design, somebody pointed out that with their older logo, the Y had such distinct details that you knew it was the yahoo y. With this, you can’t do that. Overall it does nothing for me. Yahoo is obviously a well established company and for a company that big and well known to change their logo I think it should have been… better? “The new logo doesn’t communicate any sort of new vision, purpose, or meaning to the brand. So: Why bother in the first place?”

Blog Hw 2 :Punch Cutting. Andres Zapata-Gutierrez

As I watch the process, I realize that it takes craftsmanship to work with all the tools. I think it is really cool to be able to do this because organizational skills and planning skills are developed due to the precise nature of punch cutting. I  like designing in this point in time because programs like Indesign allow me to implement the ideas of design with out having to produce each letter in a tedious manner such as this.

Blog Homework 3. Andres Zapata-Gutierrez

Designs that work:

This ad for band aids advertising their flexibility is genius to me. Everyone is familiar with the Hulk and the image lets the viewer realize the main point of the ad. The type on the product’s package works as the caption of the image. The two elements are very well combined because the idea behind them makes total sense.

This image is designed with type alone. The world play is clever, the words “PERSEVERE” and “PERISH” combined because they both have the same root. “PERISH” has perished and “PERSEVERE” is still standing. The type is used to illustrate the meaning of the words.

I think it is very interesting and confident to do this with a design. Basically the main idea is left alone while the rest of the details and the brand are crossed out with a red line. It is almost as if they were saying “Here is all you need to know, now carry on”.      I like it.

Designs that do not work:

I think this design looks really cool, but the amount of effort that takes to be able to read it throws me off. They sacrificed efficiency for aesthetics.

What does not work for me here is the color contrast. The bright purple does not work with the feel of the drink. The same design exists with a yellow label, and i think is way better than this one.

In this design, I am not getting the message. The meaning and the human parts on the type relate on a very shallow level. I get the heart the girl is holding is supposed to add to the meaning, but i still think this design is not saying much. Plus i feel like it lacks class.
