acts of rebellion

Annabel E.

While I was reading this article, it caught me off guard a little because of how upfront his writing style is. I support him writing the article and I understand why he may have made it so bold and controversial. Would it have gotten as much attention if it was written in a respectful uncontroversial way? Probably not. I think he was trying to make matters aware by writing the article in a way where other people could relate. In the article he keeps comparing all these things in American society today that are racist towards the Native Americans. He talks about how other races might feel if their race was being used to represent sport teams which aren’t even built up of just people from that ethnicity. He makes strong points because there is a blind eye that has been turned towards the racist matter of how Native Americans are portrayed in sports. I agree with the points he is trying to get across, I just wish other people would listen and try to understand the problems people face with race in such a supposedly “equal” and “fair” country. I think it’s true that many people don’t even think twice of how such names like the redskins could be offensive to certain people. But I do understand and I support Ward Churchill in trying to make people aware and defend the Native Americans rights and culture.

Offensive... if i do say so myself.
