I now believe in what Ward Churchhill believes in. That is the injustices the Native American/ Indians continue to face. Mascots are used on biases created by the general public, which for the most part has not been dear to the Native Americans. Professional sports target one specific ethnicity and recreate stereotypes that only enforce such ignorance. I think what made me so defendant against Chruchhill was that, as a reader he put me in the shoes of his people which made me a bit uncomfortable. He also comes off as very aggressive to me, and ignorantly enough I have this impression about Native American that they are for the most part very passive and kind. This has helped me realize my own stereotypes on Native Americans, and has allowed me to see the injustice that pertains to them in society.
This picture above represents one of the many professional sports teams that target Native Americans .
Interesting turn around, Melvin. I liked reading both of your posts, but I wonder what made you change your mind so quickly?
