How/Why Blog?

We had a fantastic discussion in Professor Bridgett Davis’s  “Journalistic Blogging” course about how and why we use different interfaces. Why use Tumblr instead of WordPress? Why Blogger and not Blackboard? While some of these choices may have straightforward answers, it’s interesting, and I think, important, to consider not only which platforms are best suited to our needs, but to observe and learn from the ways in which our platform choices shape and guide our content. Lifehacker has a great article on the basics of several platforms that is a useful starting point for engaging some of these questions.

Diving right in

Emily and I have been Multi-Media Fellows for approximately 2 hours. In that time, we’ve met multiple faculty members, including those we’ll be supporting this fall; had one very detailed meeting with the staff, and each launched a blog. We also managed to each complete a raft of paperwork and down some much-needed caffeine. If this is any indication, it’s going to be a busy, exciting, and productive semester.
