BEARCATS: Block Party and Ascend General Meeting

Freshmen-Block-Party

In our first semester at Baruch College, all freshmen started off their first days of college with an orientation where a block party was held at the Baruch 25th St campus. All freshman were supposed to attend the block party where clubs, sororities, and fraternities were promoting, the purpose was to get freshmen more involved into Baruch College. This was a great cause for me because I was looking to become more involved, so I joined Ascend. I was introduced by a friend that it was a great club because a lot of opportunities were given, they provided fun social events as well as marketing, professional, and leadership opportunities. As soon as I spoke with the club members at the block party, they were all very welcoming and I knew this club was not only the club that was perfect for me, but I could gain even more experience like I desired. Having to attend my first Ascend meeting September 9th, I was even more confident with my decision that this was the club I wanted to put my feet in. At the Ascend general interest meeting, they started off introducing the different committees in the club. There is the professional committee, social affairs committee, marketing committee, membership committee, fundraising committee, and the community service committee. Each committee combined makes the Ascend club. Having some experience before in each field, I had a hard time deciding which committee to persist my experience in. However, I was told I am welcomed to join any committees I preferred to at any time as long as my membership does not expire. The Baruch block party and the Ascend meetings are meaningful events that have occurred so far to keep a freshman like me active and involved in the school community.                              1185282_382058618586955_531141466_n
