As reported in the New York Times on September 17, 2013, the authority’ chairman, Thomas F. Prendergast said that they want to expand Wi-Fi and cell phone service on underground trains, even though people can access to Wi-Fi on some stations already. However, since it involves huge amounts of money, there’s no timeline for this plan or whether the service is free. The reason why they concern about this issue is many train riders agreed that having Wi-Fi and cell phone services could avoid any emergency situations of communication. By expanding Wi-Fi access, people can have more things to do while taking the train.
