As you go up the escalators to the second floor of Baruch; as many students do everyday, you may notice the large banner telling you about LGBT History Month. (LGBT – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) During the month of October many people reflect upon LGBT history, including different civil rights movements and LGBT persons of great acclaim. In Baruch LGBT History Month is not just a lesson, but a great celebration including various fun, interactive and powerful activities and events.

The Baruch G.L.A.S.S. and friends kicking off LGBT History Month with the Pride Parade
President Lily Qin, and other members of the Baruch’s G.L.A.S.S. (Gay Lesbian and Straight Society), as well as their cosponsor clubs, have put together an inclusive agenda encompassing this year’s theme “redefine” from Thursday, October 10th to Tuesday, November 5th. This year’s activities include;
- The 2nd Annual Baruch Pride Parade – Opening Event (Oct 10th) – An LGBT pride parade to kick off the month held in Baruch’s plaza
- NYPD for LGBT (Oct 15th room 2-125 during club hours) Detective Thomas Verni will discuss his involvement as an openly gay NYPD officer
- Redefine Gender (Oct 17th room 5-160 during club hours) – Professors and professionals will discuss the psychology of gender
- Out in the Workplace (Oct 22nd room 2-125 during club hours) – Different professionals will discuss being out in the workplace
- LGBT & Athletics (Oct 24th room 5-160 during club hours) – A group discussion of the athletic world and LGBT involvement in athletics
- 7th Annual Freakfest (Oct 31st in the multipurpose room 6pm – 10 pm) – A grand Halloween party, where everyone can express themselves fully without judgement, with contests and DJ Bluto
- 1st Annual Fall Formal – Closing Event (Nov 5th room 14-220 5pm – 9 pm) – A Black Tie event for Baruch students, faculty, and staff. There will be a fundraising event for the Matthew Sheppard Scholarship as well as the Baily House organization
All events are open to Baruch students that are LGBT and allies (friends or supporters of the LGBT community), those interested in learning more, and are designed to help you become engaged in the LGBT community, learn and meet new people. To learn more about these activities you can visit room 3-241 (the LGBT Resource Room and common G.L.A.S.S. hang out), everyone is very welcoming and willing to answer your questions. A large flyer listing and describing all the events in posted just above the escalators from the first to second floor in the NVC.
