Information Technology

When I typed in information technology, I immediately noticed how broad of a topic it was. There were dozens of sub topics within information technology about locations, education, law, etc. It was all alphabetized and lead down even further into other more specific topics.

Information technology

When I searched for information technology, the sorted alot by where the topic may be a big deal, such as certain countries or cities. It also sorted things in lesser sub topics to hone in on one specific idea you may be looking for. In general it also sorts alphabetically so if you know what your looking for you can just find it, rather than searching around for it.

The subject headings are all sorted alphabetically. It sorts information technology by the different types, and then further sorts it geographically.

Research on information techonologies bring out many different fields about it.The subject headings on information technology were diverse. Mainly they were divided into different locations. Also they were divided into different countries (for example, africa and asia )in economic aspects field.

Subject Headings

Subject headings are an important part of the research process. The use of subject headings helps a trained researcher look for information without wasting time on useless terms. By identifying the controlled vocabulary of a certain topic, one can easily use it to search for subject headings. A lot of subject headings for information technology are divided according to countries, and even go further to subdivide the countries. It was also done alphabetically.

Information Technology

The subject term “information technology” in the library catalog is broken down into an array of categories in alphabetical order. Categories ranging from countries (i.e. Japan, Great Britain), fields of study (i.e. Management, Philosophy), to other different subjects. Each category is also further defined with a co-category that is related to its first one.

Information technology

When browsing through the subject headings for information technology, I noticed that it seemed to be separated based on country sometimes (if it was available) and then it would place a subtopic which would be how information technology affects it. For example, “Information technology – Environmental aspects” would contain books that talk about information technology in regards to the environment and how it affects our surroundings. Sometimes the subject headings would go further and then specify how information technology affects something like the economy in a certain country, like India. The subject heading helps narrow down your search into something more organized.

Information Technology

When information technology is typed into the search box under the search type: subject begins with, the database lists the subject with other subjects headings. The list looks like: information technology — (another subject heading). The subject headings are listed in alphabetical order and examples may be acronyms, Africa, Canada, etc. When you click on one of the links under the brief records, a list of resources that fall under that subject heading will be shown. By clicking on the resource you get a full view of its record.

Some of the subdivisions are by areas, countries. Those subdivisions in turn branch out to further subdivisions, indicated by two dashes in a row.
