Blogging Here

In response to some of your questions about the blog, I just wanted to let you know that this site is visible to anyone who has the address for it. In short, what we say here can theoretically be read by anyone.

Revised Syllabus as of 8 September 2010

I just uploaded a new version of the syllabus to the course web site:

http://guides.newman.baruch.cuny.edu/lib1015

Here are the changes I made:

  • The homework assignment (AND vs. OR searching) that was scheduled originally to be due on September 13 is now due on September 21
  • On Monday, September 13, we discuss the topic of basic search before moving on to discuss what is research. We’ll have an in-class activity probably about AND vs. OR searching (this will help teach you what you will need to do the AND vs. OR searching homework assignment due on September 21)

Have a good weekend.

More on the I-Skills Resume

To followup on some of your questions about the I-Skills resume homework assignment that is due on September 8, here are some quick answers:

  • Please type your replies in the form (don’t write them in by hand)
  • The “Date” field is NOT for your date of birth but for the date that you are turning in the assignment.

Blog Posts You’ll Write

This semester, I’ll expect that everyone in this class write at least two original blog posts and at least four comments to the blog posts of others.

Original Blog Posts

  • About one of the assigned readings. Write a post in which you do one or more of the following: summarize 3 main points of the article; detail 3 questions that you had about the article; discuss how this article relates to something else we read or that we did/discussed in class.
  • About your final research project. Later in the semester, I’ll ask you to write a bit about your research project. Details on that will later.

Comments on the Blog Posts of Others

  • Comments in response to the blog post a classmate wrote about the one of the readings. You’ll need to write two different comments on two different original posts that your classmates have written.
  • Comments in response to a blog post a classmate wrote about their final project. You’ll need to write comments on two different blog posts. Details on that will come later in the semester.

Questions about this? Add them as comments to this post.
