My motto for Research…

There are multiple ways of researching due to the constant changes in technology. Research has become far more easy than it was in the past, but we the users have to know how to make the best of it. The amount of information out on the web in the present day is beyond our belief. My motto for Research that I have adapted through my years of high school is to write the key words of the question or of the topic that my teacher gives me and see which information overlaps in the result and use it in my research paper. One I get all my results from Google, which is always my prime research engine, I go on websites that either have at least one key word in the link or that end in edu or org because those seem to be a lot more precise and efficient than like Wikipedia which is a source open to the public and everyone can state what they want. Depending on the topic I look mostly into books or journals that show the difference in views and shows other peoples perspectives. However, first you must get the facts down than the views.

My Model of Research

My method of doing research is to first find the topic that I am researching. After I have my topic I’ll look into subtopics that pertain to the general topic. After choosing an interesting subtopic I can start developing a research question. Then I start searching through different databases and archives to find information on my research question. After I have gathered enough information, I will adjust my research question accordingly to answer my research question with support information I gathered through my research.

Research Strategy

There are a great number of research strategies that one can use. Different strategies help different people. There are many steps I go through in order to obtain precise and reliable research. First, I obviously need an interesting topic that I can further turn into a research question. After having a topic, I would research not only on various search engines but I would also use references such as books. In order to have a lot of information, I have to make sure to start by obtaining background information on my topic. In addition, I try my best to make sure that the sources I am using are extremely accurate and reliable so that I have the true information. For example, I wouldn’t want to use information from a website that doesn’t seem very professional. Furthermore, I keep record of all the sources that I am using for citation purposes. These steps help me gather important and correct research.

Research, Ives-style

Whenever I’m cramming to finish up a research paper, I tend to turn to Google for answers.  I’d take a few minutes to scavenge as many links as possible and then narrow down my sights on the content of each webpage.  However, if it’s required, I’d tend to go turn to the library as my LAST priority mainly because the internet consists of many resources that printed books have to offer as well.  In addition, I’d generalize my search in order to get a broader sense of the topic, and then start adding the keywords that I pick up along the way.  The ‘Find’ function helps a lot while skimming through articles because it automatically brings you to the words you’re trying to find.  In any other case, I’d usually ask my professor or teacher for some insight on alternative sources of information.

how to research – the danny park method

How i do research is simple. think search write. think about the topic and the subtopics. lets use the example Google. Then Google’s subcategories might be different apps or parts of Google. like the company itself or what may be inside the company like Gmail or Google docs vs Google owning Youtube. After a specific topic is thought up of, u go to any search engine, Google, and search it up. Afterwards when writing about the topic u use many different sources from Google to make sure the information is correct. Just using one link or source from Google may not be completely accurate and may need evidence of the trustworthiness of the source. This is the way I do research.

How I do my research….~

I find a key word or term to start with the subject I’m writing about and look for substantial articles to read about on the subject in order to write my assignment. Another way for me to do some type of research is going to the library and go to the service area and ask for a certain books or articles ba

My Research Procedure

Usually after I find out what my topic is, I automatically try to form an outline or draft for my paper so I have a type of guideline to follow. My outline consists of what the main idea of my paper is and then details I need to find in order to back up my thesis statement. I guess that I should probably begin to do more background research instead of just trying to dive right into the research paper. As mentioned in class, I tend to just take the first page of results I find and give up after that. With my new knowledge of databases at Baruch, hopefully I will be able to form a better outline and more organized paper with a direct research question instead of a general topic.

My Model of Research

I first take a look at assigned topic. If I don’t know much about the topic, I search online and see what I can write about  it. Then, I come up with the basic idea of what to research. I go onto databases and other places to find sources using keywords. From the results, I find sources and skim to see if it is relevant to my topic. If I find the source useful, I use the source for the assignment.

A Note about Readings

From this point forward, I will expect to you to print out any required reading and to bring it to class on the day that we will be discussing and using it. It is absolutely essential that you do the reading carefully and completely; if you haven’t read the material for the day, there is little reason to come to class, as you won’t be prepared to participate in a meaningful and constructive way.

Using Parentheses and AND and OR Correctly

Looking at your homework for today about AND and OR searches with parentheses, I saw a common mistake in the way you failed to use parentheses or misused the search boxes (which work the same way as a set of parentheses).

Say, for example, you want to find articles that talk about novels or fiction that take place in Asia or are about Asia in some way. Using novels, fiction, and Asia as your keywords, there are two ways to enter your searches correctly and more than a few ways to do it wrongly.
