This is a good research question, it seems to me that you have picked out a more precise question to answer which is good. I don’t see anything that needs to be changed but I do think that you should go more in *depth* on your research question, just to make it easier for you answer for a 3-5 page research paper.
Yes, I agree, it’s not as broad as other peoples, including mine. However, you should just choose one country, either Japan or China. That way you can just focus on one really specific topic. You’ll also have to define what sense of privacy means, either to you or to the culture of the country. I’m not a hundred percent sure but maybe you can focus on the street view service within Google maps. Hope this helps. ☺
I agree this is a good research question but I don’t believe there is a Google Streetview for China. China banned/blocked Google in 2010 so I don’t think they would allow any of their other services. Hong Kong, on the other hand, does allow Google and also offers the Streetview function.
I think Yuna’s suggestion of focusing on one country is a good idea. I just looked at Shanghai in Google Maps and see that some parts of the city are show in Street View mode, so you might still be able to use China for your topic. I suggest that you do some reading about Google Maps in China or in Japan (pick one) so you can learn some more and come up with a more focused question. As soon as I see the word “affect” in a research question, I sense a question that doesn’t yet detail the action of one thing on another. Once you know a bit more about how Google Maps and Street View worked out in either of those countries, I think you’ll be able to offer a better question.
