   I think this is a very good and narrow topic. I like how the question focuses on just the adverse effects and not both the adverse and the positive. It’s also nice that you focus on the future adverse effects instead of the past, present and the future.

   I agree with Kyungheon, The research question is narrow, it adresses a problem with goodle and a specific group of people. Theres probably enough of an impact by google books to leave enough room to be descriptive. I can’t really think of anything that would need too much tweaking but good job so far for a second draft!

   Your classmates are right on: you have done a good job of focusing your question. I’m wondering, though, about the focus on members of the Authors Guild. Why just them? Only a fraction of living authors are probably members of this organization (an interesting question alone is what percentage of living published authors are actually members). If you’ve got a good reason to focus on the Authors Guild (and I’m not saying that there isn’t a good reason), you need to explain that in your question in some way.

   I also think that the word “affect” is too general. Are you interested in understanding to what extent Authors Guild members would see diminished sales of their books that have been digitized by Google Books? Are you more interested in the copyright issues (does Google have a legal right to scan and digitize without the author’s permission?) You’ll need to spell this out in your final question.
