This is a bit too broad. Google offers many services. It would be difficult to write a paper on all of their services, especially their major ones like AdSense, Google Search, Google Maps, Android OS, and so on.
I pressed enter before I was done. It would be a good idea to choose one service that they offer and find a subtopic about it.
Mike, this question seems broad since Google offers a multitude of services. For instance, Google’s AdSense and Maps services are very popular. Create a question that goes into the specifyties of those subjects. For instance, “To what extent does AdSense promote freelance blogging?”.
Albert… no, I’m kidding. Mike, I think you should specify who the ‘we’ is, in your question. I feel like if you don’t specify who the ‘we’ is referring to, you will have an overload of research to deal with. Perhaps talk about how much college students in New York City trust google services (and I agree with Yevgeny about what google service is being trusted). Also, how do you plan to measure the amount of faith a group puts into google?
Mike, this question seems a little vague and broad. There is a variety of “services” that Google provide and to do a research paper on such a general subject i feel isn’t possible. I think you should decide on a specific service.
I also think that this topic is too broad and that you should limit it to a specific Google service and perhaps to a specific region. Also, the statement to what extent should we trust Google is vague. Trust Google in what sense? The reliability of its services and customer assistance or the issues regarding user policy? I think you should take a side and argue whether or not we can trust Google in one of these topics in a specific region.
Your classmates have done a great job of pointing out some important things to consider and change in your original question. Although lots of folks in class are working the privacy angle, your use of the word “trust” is very interesting. Maybe you might want to dig deeper into why people trust Google or how much they trust Google or in what ways they trust Google. There might be an interesting psychological aspect to your topic that could turn up a great research question. I should note that my use of the word “people” and “Google” are themselves problematic, as they are both too broad. Maybe you might want to think about which age groups trust Google more and then try to figure out why one group trusts Google the most or why one group trusts Google the least. Maybe you will also want to focus on one part of the Google empire: just the search engine or maybe Gmail or Google Calendar etc.
